Sebastian Wegmann | Life as a Consultant at ID North

Get a glimpse into Sebastian’s role and his experience of life as a consultant.
How would you describe life as a consultant?
Life as a consultant at ID North is perfect for someone like me who enjoys taking ownership and appreciates a flexible work environment. The atmosphere at ID North is always calm and supportive, which means you never hesitate to ask questions, no matter how silly they might sound. On top of that, it’s a social workplace with regular events and after-works, which I think is a lot of fun.
How varied are the assignments you get to work on, and how does that impact your development?
Assignments can vary a lot, both depending on the type of project or product you're working with, and because no two clients are the same. This means you gain broader knowledge in areas like IT security, IAM/IGA, and IT infrastructure. It can also mean more responsibility, which helps build soft skills too. In short, you gain experience in both technology and business.
How do you balance your role as an expert consultant in client projects with teamwork alongside their employees?
I’m a very open person who enjoys meeting and working with new people, which fits well with the consultant life. Balancing internal and external collaboration has never been an issue. On the contrary, it’s something I really enjoy. It’s reassuring to always have your internal team to bounce ideas off, while also learning a lot from the knowledge and experience of the client’s employees.
Can you give an example of a project where you really got to try something new?
I started out as a complete beginner on a Cloud IAM project. With only two weeks of training behind me, it became a true learn-by-doing experience. This fast start taught me a lot, and also that you don’t always need to be an expert in everything from the beginning.
What opportunities have you had to grow and broaden your skills here?
Naturally, you take on more responsibility over time, and at the same time, you naturally step into a more central role in the consulting work as your skills and confidence grow.
How would you describe the sense of community at ID North, even though you often work at or with clients?
The sense of community is amazing. Everyone is super friendly and helpful, and people enjoy spending time together outside of work too. Plus, we have a really nice office that some choose to work from regularly.
